FLC Men

Six seniors will pilot the men on a mission to prove their place among the best Fort Lewis squads ever, as they approach team and individual records. The Oige Kennedy regime officially began on July 17 when he signed his contract, two weeks after former coach Tim Hankinson resigned. "There was never any rush. These things take time. I kept my focus on preparing for what can be a very impressive season." Kennedy has high praise and expectations for the six seniors this season. "This group has plenty of skill and experience to take us back to the national finals."

Kennedy is not the only one making this claim. David Barden, who is approaching multiple scoring records, maintains, "We are all very excited about the season and having Oige take over. We anticipate doing very well as a team and I expect a lot from myself." Tom Settle played overseas this summer to prepare for the season. "The best experience was playing international football. That experience should translate into domestic success because it is such a high level."

FLC Women

The women used the offseason to get some international experience of their own. They traveled to Barcelona to prepare for their 2009 campaign, where they went 3-0. An undefeated trip to Spain and a group of talented seniors has created a buzz in the women's locker room. Coach Damian Clark explains, "This group of seniors will be a force! We will also get some players back who were injured last year. Everyone is excited."

All of these factors have created momentum for the women that should yield an NCAA tournament appearance. The players and coaches aren't the only ones who are fired up. The athletic administration and fans have been talking about this season all summer. Fall is coming, and with it, two formidable Fort Lewis soccer teams on a mission.

Alumni Games - Saturday, August 22

The 2009 FLC soccer alumni games will be held on August 22, at Dirks Field on the Fort Lewis College campus. The women will kick of first, at 1pm, followed by the men at 3pm. The volleyball team will also hold their alumni game the same day, at 5pm. There will be festivities honoring the ten year anniversary of the 1999 men's soccer team, which progressed all the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship game. A reception will wrap up Saturday's events - come join us at The Irish Embassy (9th & Main) at 8pm.

Irish Embassy Loyalty Cards

The Irish Embassy (aka, "the Pub") has set up a new loyalty card program to benefit both men's and women's FLC soccer programs. Simply sign up for a Loyalty Card either online or in person (one-time processing fee of $5); then, have your card run any time you spend money at the pub - much like a casino player's card. All spending linked to a loyalty card is tracked, and the Embassy will donate 10% to the programs at the end of each month. You only spend the initial $5 -- then you start making the soccer programs money, by doing what you'd do anyway - eating and drinking at the Pub!
