Hello to all,

I hope this email finds you well.

As I'm sure you are already aware, our Dad passed away in his sleep on Monday
31st May. He was in the US at the time and on course for another one of his
routine tours, where he was doing what he was gifted to do - teach. Shortly
after finishing what was another successful coaching session, he laid down to
rest. He was in good spirits and was doing what he loved.

Below are the details of his service, where we plan to remember & celebrate
this great man.

The Service:
Date: Monday 21st June
Time: 11.15am
Place: Emmanuel Church, Main Road, Hawkwell, Essex SS5 4NR. (Tel: 01702 200173)

Cremation:
Time: Approx 12.40pm
Place: Sutton Road Crematorium, Sutton Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS2 5PX
- This will naturally follow The Service and will be for the Family and for
whoever else would like to attend. All are welcome but it will not be expected
of you.

The Wake:
Place: Hockley Community Centre, Westminster Drive, Hockley, Essex SS5 4XD
Time: Approx 1.00pm
- This is only a 10 minute drive (at the most) from the Church. You can choose
to go straight to the Wake from the Service whereby the family will join you
shortly after.

The Church itself has very minimal car park space, so you will most likely
have to use the adjoining roads surrounding the church. It shouldn't be a
problem - but please do allow yourself a bit of extra time for this when
setting out. We understand that the police may be notified of this - and extra
bollards etc may be allocated.

Thanks to Sat-Nav, directions should all be pretty straight forward, but just
in case:
From the Church to the Wake: Proceed left along the main road (aptly named,
the 'Main Road') until you get to a mini-roundabout ('The Spa Pub' on corner),
go straight at this roundabout until you arrive at another mini-roundbout,
whereby you turn right (into Buckingham Road). Take the 3rd left (Westminster
Drive) and follow that road all the way to the community centre.

For those that may be traveling from overseas, please feel free to use any of
the post codes above to find a hotel that is in close proximity. The following
are two that we know to be close:
http://www.maisonrenouf.co.uk and Strawberry Field,Thanet Grange, Southend-on-
Sea SS2 6GB. We would be more than happy to assist in any way - so please do
get in touch should you need to.

Flowers/ Donations:
The family would prefer family flowers only and would instead encourage a
donation to a charity. Should you wish to make a donation/offering, then it is
our wish that they be made to The Dream Factory (www.yourdreamfactory.org). To
quote from their website, "The Dream Factory aims to brighten the lives and
encourage hope for children and young people who have life limiting
conditions." This a wonderful charity, and although relatively young - is
already achieving amazing things. As well as this, our Dad's sister, Janet,
does work for this charity and Highams Park School (where Andy once worked and
had some of the most rewarding coaching sessions in his career) have just
chosen to support them as the charity of their choice, thus it seems apt and a
fitting legacy for our Dad's memory. To support such an inspiring and
worthwhile cause would be something very special. Please do take the time to
visit the website and find out more about who they are and what they do.

Can we just say, if it is your wish to bring flowers instead, then of course,
please do so.

Please don't feel obliged to wear black, dress in whatever way you feel
comfortable. Although, we do draw the line at flip-flops!

May we take this opportunity to Thank You all for your lovely cards, flowers,
& words. Even though our Mum may have to move house to accommodate them all
(!), they have been such a great comfort to her and to us, and are very very
much appreciated.

Unfortunately, we don't have the email addresses of all those that have got in
touch. Should you know of anyone who would like to be there on the day but is
unaware of the arrangements, then please feel free to forward this email on.
Thank you.

We wish it were through different circumstances that we were meeting, but at
least we will all be together, and our Dad will be looking down on us all
fondly.

Warm Wishes,

Us x

(Beryl, Jason & Paul McDermid).
