FLC v. Mines Match Report
Different year, same Mines team. One or two players and 9 to 12 other donkeys in and out of the game. Some long throw ins and a flip throw or two.
Overall, FLC controlled the match from the jump flying at Mines. With Jamie suspended for the match, Jeff swung back from the midfield to center back where he played last year, and Settle moved into the center of midfield.
The wind was blowing across the field all game and it was bitter cold, so Mines long ball game was ineffective. FLC saw most success coming down the right side of the field with Kyle Wood flying at the Mines back four. Some unfortuate deflections inside the penalty area stopped us from being up 2 or 3 at half, and Wood hitting the post.
Second half so much of the same, some sloppy clearances almost cost the Fort, but Zane pulled an unreal save to parry the ball around the post....I have no idea in what minute we scored because the scoreboard was across the field and was all of 3 feet long and I am not sure if it was even working...a ball swung in was met by Fabian and the Mines goalie a scrabble insued and I believe Euan slammed home a volley about 2 yards out to give us the lead. I am thinking about 12 minutes were left as Mines went searching for the equaliser. Once again, a bunch of long throw ins and some great work by Zane and the back four kept Mines out.
Side commentary: Frank complained alot, wanted Keane sent off for a hard tackle in which Keane still won the ball, and then sent a player on to take out Keane in much of the same manner. The only difference was the Mines player missed the ball and got all Keane and no foul was called. Still Frank complained because Keane questioned the call. This brief moment in the game shows how distant Frank is from reality and why he is the guy that all FLC fans love to hate.
Player of the game: Keane Hamilton - completely terrorized the center of the field and allowed Settle to distribute while the Mines players concentrated on kicking Keane. As the game opened up in the second half, his darting runs through the midfield spread out a very compacted Mines back four. Not to mention is slide tackle kept the ball in the box that would eventually lead to the FLC goal.
Overall fantastic result for the boys, good to see Dobby back out and playing after the asthma attack last weekend. Also, great work by Jeff in dropping back in the back four and really showing a seemless transition, not skipping a beat at all and fully controlling Mines all game.
Let's bring the trophies home this year boys!
